Dear Lafayette Parents and Community Members:

As many of you are aware, our five neighborhood TK-8 schools rank among the best in the state.
Our schools help define and shape the quality of our community. Sadly, however, given woefully inadequate funding that persists at the state level, our district, like many others, must turn to our community to find ways to address this problem locally.

It is our duty to keep you informed as we plan ahead to ensure high quality education for years to come. This is why Lafayette School District is engaged in a feasibility study, now underway, to investigate ways to enhance revenues. While we deeply appreciate the continued support from Parent Organizations and our local Education Foundation (LPIE), it is simply not enough to maintain the extremely high quality of education that you, our community, consistently tell us you value.

Our Governing Board is currently discussing options and may take action by early March. You’re always encouraged to attend our Board meetings, including our next two meetings in the Stanley Middle School Library, at 7 pm on January 22nd and February 13th.

YOUR OPINIONS MATTER. Parent, staff and community input is encouraged. Please let us know your thoughts and questions by replying online here. If you have interest in convening a group of community members to learn more, please feel free to contact me directly at superintendent@lafsd.org or (925) 927-3502.

Sincerely,

Richard Whitmore

Superintendent
